1931SummerOne nest contained five egcs near the entrance on June 25th. On July 14th a group of 11 birds, Edults and young, was seen near another nest (Hrs. C. E. Peterson, Nadison). -18-The W9ker, 1931
1932SummerOn July 14th Hro. Pct<:;rson saw young Burrowing Owls in a pasture calling for food. This wns et l-L!.dir,on.
1933Summer Mrs• Peterson of Madison furnishes us with a. report of 5 adults and 15 young of this species huddled together abqut holes on July 16th. on\August 13th they were 11flying EU"Ound learning to strike at make-believe prey."
1934Summer Although no positive nesting records of this intore1~ting vosternor were reported, Upson and Du.Toit contribute tho fol:lowing note: "Juno 19, 1934, Lac guj. Parle County -Certain debris in iliho tunnel, such as bird ond a.nioal retlains, and the conduct of tho adults, indicated nesting; however, the number of eggs or yt)ung v.ro.s not ascertained as none were in sight o.nc1 the burrow w:a:s too long to permit reaching its end."
1963SpringMay 5, between Herman and Wheaton, in Traverse County, 1 pair, R. Grant; May 18, same pair and another pair in Traverse County R. Grant.
1963SummerTraverse Co., 3 miles NE of Collis, May 18 thru June 8, pair seen at nest burrow by R. Grant. Burrow flooded out by heavy rains and abandoned thereafter. Another pair 7 miles W. of Herman, but in Traverse County, seen repeatedly at nest burrow from May 5 to July 26, by R. Grant. Pellets collected. A Note of Interest will appear in a future issue.
1963FallSept., exact date? Traverse Co., Nick Zeller fide R. Grant. This species presumably breeds on Mr. Zeller's land.

1968Spring 4-5 Rock Co., 1, RO, may be earliest date on record? 5-28 LaCrosse, Wisconsin, adjacent to Houston Co,. Minnesota 1 at airport, FL.
1971Springone reported on 5-15 and 5-27 near St. Leo, Yellow Medicine Co. by DB and RG; in recent years this owl has become scarce in western Minn. where it was formerly regular.
1974Summer This now casual species nested in Cottonwood Co. (one mi. west of Indian Petroglyphs Monument), four young raised (J. Brandenberg); this owl is very rare now in the state and last nested regularly in the early 1960's.

1977Summer Nested in Prior Twp., Big Stone Co. (3 young raised; fide B. Ehlers); first summer record since another nesting record 3 years ago.

2002Spring An unmated adult faithfully attended a burrow 5/6+ Murray (Lowville Twp.) m.ob., ph. DAC (The Loon 74:165). First documented record since May 1997.
2002Summer First summer report since 1991. Single adult 6/2 Murray (Lowville Twp.) MSS; this individual was originally discovered in early May (see spring report and The Loon 74:164–165).
2003Spring Reported 5/5–13 Swift (Moyer Twp.). Found dead 5/13 and subsequently deposited at the J. F. Bell Museum of Natural History in Minneapolis as specimen #BMNH44835.
2004Spring One seen 4/21 Lac qui Parle (Perry Twp.) †BJU. Potential nesting pair 5/22+ Watonwan (near Lewisville) DLB, ph. AXH, unfortunately disappeared early June after burrow was dug out by fox.
2004Summer Pair near Lewisville (see spring report) disappeared 6/2 Watonwan fide AXH.
2005Spring One faithfully but fruitlessly attended a burrow 4/30–5/14 Lac qui Parle (Hantho Twp.) ph. MLH et al. The landowner first noted this bird in mid-April fide PHS.
2006Spring Two adults claimed a burrow 4/27–5/6 Polk (Tilden Twp.) JEk et al., †JMJ, ph. †PHS (The Loon 78:233). A pair of copulating adults 5/6 Norman (near Lockhart) †ABL were still present 5/29. A calling male at the Rochester airport 5/9+ Olmsted †JWH, ph. CCB, †ADS was recorded by JJS and furnished a second county record, but failed to attract a mate.
2006Summer Last seen and heard at Rochester Airport 6/24 Olmsted fide JWH (please see spring report). Another reported from the Southwest 6/18 Pipestone (near Pipestone) ph. Angela Kallsen. Two adults seen by local residents since at least 7/1 Stevens (Rendsville Twp.) were documented mid-August ph. DO. [Corrected]
2006Fall Two adults seen by local residents since at least 7/1 in Stevens (Rendsville Twp.) were photographed 8/14 DO.
2007Summer2 Observed 6/1–7/28 Polk (Glacial Ridge N.W.R.) m.ob. Initially, two adults were found by BJE and confirmed by †CMM; later, two adults and two juveniles were reported. Also documented by †DAB, †PCC, †JPE, ph. BDF, ph. †JMJ. First known successful breeding in the state since 1991. One adult clung to the outskirts of Moorhead beginning 7/2 or 7/3 Clay ph. DJBe, ph. KVH.
2007Fall11 One lingered in Clay from early July until 10/2 (see summer report for more details). A total of 4 birds (2 adults and 2 young, though only one adult and one juvenile documented) was discovered near probable nest site near Edgerton in Pipestone beginning 8/6 ph. DAC, ph. JeF, RBJ and subsequently seen by several observers through 8/18.
2008Spring1 One bird present 5/22+ Clay (Moorhead, observed sitting on mound of dirt beside hole) ph. DRe, CMN, ph. †PHS, m.ob.
2008Summer1 One from spring still present 6/7 Clay (southeast Moorhead) CMB.
2010Spring1 One bird observed 5/15 Clay (near Bluestem Prairie S.N.A.) †BMc, SBe.
2011Spring1 First county record 5/18–19 Kittson (2, Joe River State Wildlife Area) ph. LW, ph. †TrB, RAE.
2016Spring1 One was present in Wilkin, northeast of Breckinridge, 4/23–5/23 MJM, ph. †JMJ, ph. PHS.
 
 Former summer resident southwest and west-central. Recorded in three of the last ten years, most recently 2016. State designation: Endangered.
